8 The Tar Hl Thursday, May 22, 1980 news CGC budget is completed By Rochelle Riley The final budget for student organizations receiving funds from the Campus Governing Council was completed April 24. The CGC allocated $188,039.09 for student groups Fall 1980 and Spring 1981 activities. Unappropriated funds amounted to $2,846. "The unappropriated balance is for organizations requiring supplementary ' funds. Student Government is in excellent financial shape to fund organizations (that request additional funds),", said Student Body President Bob Saunders. Some of the organizations had complaints about the final budget. One of the loudest came from the Residence Hall Association, whose budget was cut from $6,500 last year to $4,845 for next year. "(RHA) would be the only organization that I would disagree with their budget," Saunders said. "However I think that considering that inflation took its toll, the budgeting was fair," he said. Several factors contributed to the lack of money available for funding this year. A budget process committee may be appointed to examine the process and possible resources for next year's finance hearings, Saunders said. Several factors contributed to the lack of money available for funding this year. Several new organizations received funding for the first time; thus money for expansion in already existing organizations was unavailable. Inflation caused several organizations to change plans for enlarging their programs, and student fees did not increase. "Since CGC did not receive an increase in student fees and the CGC lost $17,000 in controllable fees to the Graduate and Professional Student Federation in a campus referendum earlier in the year, there was a smaller pool of available funds for other organizations," Saunders said. The disbursement of appropriated funds to student organizations was: Association of International Students, $255; Association for Women Students, $6,853; mmm.,nn ' --J.
