Royster, former editor of the Wall-Street Journal. Royster, a 1935 graduate of UNC, has been a William Rand Kenan professor of journalism and public affairs since his retirement form the Journal in 1971. He joined the paper in 1936 and was its editor from 1958 unul his retirement. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for editorial writing and has won numerous other awards. The School of Journalism Foundation, headed by Joe Doster, publisher of the Winston-Salem' Journal and The Sentinel, will administer the endowment. "It is the largest single contribution the school has ever received," said Richard R. Cole, dean of the Journalism School. Dow Jones, owner of the Journal, pledged the money last fall on the condition that an additional $50,000 be raised from other sources. Cole said. "That amount and then some has now been secured," Cole said. Income from the endowment will establish annual Royster-Dow Jones fellowships andassistantships for graduate students.
