Charlie Brown, president of the Carolina Athletic Association, said Monday he knew the system had suffered some abuses, but thought it was better than past methods of distribution. "If we were still using the old system," Brown said, "people would be camping out on the hill. When you've got the No. 7 team in the country, people are just going to be more interested." Prior to the 1979 season, students waited for tickets for Home football games outside Kenan Stadium on the morning of the game. Advance distribution went into effect this fall along with a provision that allows one person to pick up two tickets with two IDs. Brown also attempted to discourage abuses of the system by confiscating IDs when used by anyone other than the Teague A, P Dy GARY MANGUM Staff Writer Phi Delta Theta and Teague A utsed strong defenses and big offensive plays to win the campus fraternity and dorm intramural football championships Monday at Carmichael field. The Phi Delts gained a measure of revenge in dethroning two-time defending champion Pi Kappa Phi 14-0. The Pi Kaps had beaten the Thetas in the semifinals the previous two seasons. Teague A also got some revenge for the dorm in beating the Ninth Floor Liberation Organization . of Morrison 7-6. The NFLO had beaten Teague B 14-7 in the semifinals. The two winners now advance to the all-campus championship tournament later this week. After a scoreless first half, the Phi Delts struck quickly in their game, when Bruce Brown hit Bailey Patrick with a long pass on a punt return. The score was set up when the Pi Kaps intercepted a pass near their goal line and elected to punt on first down to avoid the chance of f umbling and giving up a safety. In Carolina intramural football, the ball is down once it touches the ground. 1 r George Bums returns! OH, GOD! A second such violation would cause the owner of the ID to be taken before the Honor Court. : But Brown said about only 20 IDs had been confiscated through the N.C. State game and that no cases had gone to the student court. "A lot of students are getting in on borrowed IDs' Brown admitted. "But our goal is to obtain the least percentage of non-UNC students getting in and taking student seats." Brown also said the bloc-ticket policy had been abused by some groups. Some, students, finding out which groups had the best seats in their blocs, would pose as members of that bloc and take tickets from those who would have been there. To combat this, Brown said groups with this problem would be allowed to set up a token system where only persons with a card stamped with a group's symbol could pick up tickets from that group's bloc. Brown also said some students had been using old stickers from guest passes bought for previous games on student tickets for later games. He said the ticket office will use different color guest ticket stickers for each game in future seasons. hi Delts win football titles "The long pass on the kick return broke our backs and it was hard for us to get up after that," said Joel Walters, coach of the Pi Kaps. The Phi Delts added another score late in the game on a 20-yard pass from Doug Gay to John Pace. The Pi Kaps threatened several times but couldn't punch the ball over. They were thwarted on their first series when the Phi Delts intercepted a deflected pass in the end zone. "We just couldn't stick it in when it counted," Walters said. "None of us had a good day catching the ball." Gay, the captain of victorious Phi Delta Theta, said the Pi Kaps did a good job of clogging up the middle. "We felt . like if we could get outside, we could run on down the field we won because we got outside." He and his teammates will run after Oklahoma Saturday in Norman, Okla. who then threw a bomb to Druw Head, who scampered into the end zone completing the 65-yard pass play. The extra point, however, was missed. Teague scored its eventual winning points later in the first quarter following an interception by Teague's Buzz Noell. Teague used a long pass to reach the 15-yard line and quarterback Gary Bowman hit Noell with the TD pass. Ron Broom's extra point provided the winning margin. Noell said the touchdown pass was not designed to go to him. "It was a busted play," he said. "Bowman made the play he was supposed to pass to the righp side, they rushed in, he scrambled around, saw me in the end zone and hit me." An apparent touchdown pass of about 50 yards to Brad Shumaker was called back because of a penalty for screening the defense. fiCr NEW YORK STYLE & NEW YORK STYLE 7 Buy One Pizza at Regular Price 2nd PiZZa (Same Value) PRIC Eat In or Tcko Out 'Every Day Except Fridays" Scrry llo Checks Coupon Good thru 1125S3 i CC3-4371 5C3 W. By GEOFREY MOCK Staff Writer Undaunted by two defeats by the Virginia Select last weekend, the North Carolina women's soccer team goes against the Select for a third time as part of a two-day road trip to Washington, D.C. Carolina opens the trip against George Washington at 7:30 p.m. today at Francis Field in Washington, D.C. The Tar Heels visit the Select for a Wednesday afternoon game in Northern Virginia. The Select defeated the Tar Heels 4-0 and 4-1 for UNC's first losses this season. However, the weekend also brought the news that the Tar Heels were given their region's bid to the AIAW national championships in Colorado next month. UNC coach Anson Dorrance said the team's performance in the AIAW tournament would be helped by playing the Select. "The Select have the best players from Virginia," he said. "They were excellent competition. They will really help us prepare for the nationals." The Carolina offense never mounted a major threat in the first game, but Dorrance made a switch in the attack for i'A w i . , - l unload pass agcinst Teague A defenders in dorm title gema ...Teague A claimed a narrow 7-6 victory Monday night f l f 9 i the Dill Carolina Union cds must bo prepaid. "You would think that would hurt our offense, but it gave us some shooting opportunities and w-e cut the Select's shots by a third so maybe we can go with it in the national." Goalie Molly Current, who more often than not has been on the winning end of shutouts, said the defense played well despite the eight goals. "The wings, Susan Ellis and Liz Crowley, played very well," she said. "The Select sent middies down the wings and they were having to handle two people." Current said playing the Select could only help the Tar Heels improve. "The nationals are what we have to do. These will be college teams just like us and we'll have a chance to win. Nobody will remember the losses to the Select if we win the tournament. We're looking at the Select as a learning experience." Much of Carolina's success against the Select and the nationals will depend on how well leading scorer Janet Ray field recovers from a mid-season injury. "If Janet's 100 percent then we'll be effective, Dorrance said. CIi;:pc! Hill, IX 27514. Ail Ad iiiuzt be received by 12 I- - . i-.it I I . THERESA AND KAREN. Thanks for the proposition.
