He also served as Secretary of the Navy for President Woodrow Wilson. The honorees will have their photographs and biographies permanently and prominently displayed in Howell Hall. According to its charter, the Hall of Fame will recognize and honor persons who are distinctly identified with the state and who have made outstanding contributions to journalism, mass communication or related fields. ; Nominees do not have to be natives of North Carolina nor graduates of the UNC School of Journalism. There will be no set number of living honorees inducted per year, but the annual number of posthumous awards is limited to one. Richard Cole, dean of the School of Journalism and chair man of the Hail of Fame selection committee, said that the hall has been long overdue. "It's about time we had our own hall of fame," he said. "North Carolina as a state has much more than its fair share of outstanding journalists." ' Cole said the reputation of UNC's School of Journalism and the large number of good newspapers in the state might be factors in North Carolina's tradition of journalistic excellence. "Hell, maybe there's something in the water," he added. The Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils will join this week to sponsor a series of events designed to promote Greek unity and leadership. A leadership conference is scheduled for 5 p.m. today in Great Hall. Tuesday, Greek Sportswear Day, will feature a drive for the Heart Fund in the Pit and a Friends of the Greeks reception. Wednesday the councils will hold an awards reception, and several night-time attractions will offer discount admissions for fraternity. and sorority members.
