Tar Heel Days, a series of four day-long
orientation programs for freshmen and
junior transfer students, begins Saturday.
"Tar Heel Days is most important to
parents' said Donald Beeson, Tar Heel
Days director. "We let parents know what
if s going to be like for their kids, and let
them know ahead of time that Carolina is
tougher than wherever they've been
before."
Parents attending Tar Heel Days choose -two
half-hour information sessions from a '
list including "Parenting To Support Inde-'
pendence," "Financial Aid and Money Man
agement," "The Paper Chase Classroom
Pressures" and others dealing with social life
and university services.
After the information sessions, parents will
assemble into small groups for a question
and answer session with a student and a fac
ulty member.
"This is one of the most successful parts
of the parents' program," Beeson said.
"They have a chance to ask about anything,
and we can find the answer. This covers
academics, extracurricular activities and
social life everything they'll run into at
Carolina."
During the morning, Tar Heel Days will
provide new students with information
sessions on classroom pressures, money
management. Creek life, lifestyles, student
government, and other topics. The after
noon sessions will be devoted to dormitory
tours. ' '
In addition. Tar Heel Days will sponsor an
activities mart in the Union from 9:50 a.m. to
130 p.m. during each of the four days
June 27. July 11, July 18 and July 25. All
campus organizations are encouraged to
participate in the activities mart, Beeson
said.
Students are needed to run the activities
and to guide new students through the cam
pus and the dormitories, he said. Interested
persons can contact Beeson at 933-2375 or
come by the orientation office in the Steele
building basement.
