You Name It, We'll Print It, T-Shjrts I 155 E: Franklin St. -...j VJ FREE ALTERATIONS By SPEED HALLMAN North Carolina's week-old gasoline tax in crease has not affected gas sales locally, according to an informal poll of area dealers by The Summer Tar Heel. Business is "about the same," a Happy Store spokesman said. Some dealers absorbed the cents per gallon increase and did not raise their prices. For example, the Happy Store raised the price of unleaded gas three cents but maintained the same price for regular gas after the tax went into effect July 1. , In at least one case, an oil company low ered its price after the tax increase. "We went up 3 cents the first of July and then Amoco came down 2 cents, so we went down with them," Frank Holloway of Eastgate Am oco said. The Fourth of July holiday brought no in crease in sales to most dealers surveyed. A spokesman for Etna Oil Company said that "business was slow. Everybody was out of town.... We've always been real slow on the Fourth."
