Green is owner and one of two hairstylists at 516 Vfest Franklin St. She and Robin Johnson are giving free haircuts to men and women in an effort to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy this week. Be cause Green and Johnson are not charging for their services, they are hoping people will contribute a fair amount. The fund-raising project is also designed to attract potential regular customers. Dy LYNN EARLEY DTH Staff Writer Formal fraternity rush is four days away and brothers of each house are preparing for the semi-annual event. The brothers at Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity at Finley Golf Course Road are no exception. The only difference is that there are only two active brothers in this house. The house is in its second year of its second reorgani zation, president Robert St. John said. The chapter was chartered in 1926 and reorganized for the first time in 1967. . After last year's reorganization, the fraternity had four active brothers, two pledges and three little sisters. They now have two active brothers, two new pledges and three little sisters, vice-president and secretary, Cris Noble said. Even though they have no funds, the two brothers will be holding rush activities. "We're going to have traditional formal rush, but we're not expecting too much of a turn out from that," Noble, a junior psychology and drama major from New Bern, said. "For the informal rush, Robert (St. John) and I are going to hold private parties and invite friends who seem interested." All activities will be paid for by Noble and St. John, a sophomore business major from Greensboro. The little sisters will play a major role during rush, "The little sisters are helping out by talking to. their male friends and trying to gel them interested in (rush)," Noble said. St. John and Nobel plan other rush activities as well. They said they would reserve block seats at each home football game and sponsor informal discussions and par ties. Their informal rush will be continuous and pledges will be accepted at any time. Although there are only two active brothers in Phi Sigma Kappa, there are actually five brothers. Three of the brothers moved out of the house and now have limited contact. : : -. . . Former president Lonnie Hawley, a senior radioTV major from Durham, offered some insight into the de clining membership. "We weren't too sure how the house stood because of the lack of members.' Hawley said he had to become less active for personal ' reasons as well. "I'm just trying to graduate right now. I'm going to try to help them out when I get myself on the ground." . , He had spent so much time last year on the reorganiza-: tion that his grades were in serious trouble, he said. The Phi Sigma Kappa Alumni Association is now paying all the chapter's bills, including house payments. A few boarders at the house have helped out, but St. John said ' the Alumni Association planned to lease the house to Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The Phi Sigma Kappa brothers will probably be allowed to board in the house and continue their rush activities. The two brothers said they were confident of the future: "It looked bleak for a while but when we saw how enthused everyone was about it, things looked better," St. John said. Noble said there were a lot of people on campus who wanted something they could call their own a chance to build their own traditions. Wilson Library renovation to restore original style When Wilson Library was completed in 1929, the main entrance was lined with Corinthian columns. Marble and torazzo floors decked the entrance hall and tra vortino walls ascended toward the orna mental ceilings. That is the style to which Wilson will be restored during a two-year period of renovation scheduled to begin next summer. The purpose of the renovation is to re turn the character of the old 1929 building, said Clifton Brock, associated librarian for public services. "We will move all but four departments into Davis Library during the renovation. The special collections will be moved into Wilson's new stacks and finally, a back entrance will be installed and used as the circulation area since the front entrance will be closed due 4a the renovation," , Brock said. "When the front is restored, there will be two circulation areas." The $5 million renovation was funded through sales of University-owned utili ties. . The money was figured into the amount set aside for the new Walter B. Davis Library. Installing a back entrance on Wilson should hot affect the security, Brock said. Someone will man the back door, but Wilson will not have a new security detec- tion system like the one in the undergra duate library. Additional rooms were connected to Wilson in 1952. The new stacks were built in 1977. In 1985, Wilson Library may once again be described as it was in 1929 the most beautiful building on campus. TAMMY WRIGHT: I', i t 11 Cairboro may raie employee alafie The Town of Carrboro is considering adjusting town employees' salaries by Oct. 1, instead of waiting for the completion of a state study on employee pay and class ification, Alderman Doug Sharer said.
