Teach-in today on FBI, CM A teach-in to educate students about the FBI and the CIA and to protest recent proposals concerning the two organiza tions will be held between noon and 1 p.m. today in the Pit. The teach-in, sponsored by the Coali tion for Social Justice, is being held while representatives from the two organiza tions recruit on the UNC campus today and Thursday. "We are not protesting their right to be here and recruit," said David Crohn, a member of the coalition. "They obviously have a legal right to be here. "We would like to use the opportunity to enlighten students to facts that aren't normally heard,'' he said. This is the second such teach-in to be held this semster. A similar rally was held at the School of Law in September while FBI recruiters were on campus. Among the speakers expected to attend the teach-in are Louis Pitts, a Greensboro attorney, and Katie Green, a member of People United a group protesting the Ku KIux Klan and Nazism, Crohn said. Another purpose of the teach-in "is to point out to students that the FBI and CIA have an affect on their lives, said Claudia Werman, a member of the coali tion. Among the issues the protest will ad dress are proposals to allow the CIA to renew domestic spying activities and to limit information about the organization now available through the Freedom of Information Act, Crohn said. ::r: unS AVAILABLE IN JAN. III I , o m Committee rules on CIA proposals WASHINGTON (AP) The Senate Intelligence Committee urged the Reagan administration on Tuesday to scrap its proposal to let the CIA infiltrate and try to influence U.S. organizations. After a one-hour closed meeting, Committee Chairman' Barry M. Goldwater, R-Ariz., said the panel unanimously agreed to recommend that the administration retain the almost complete ban on CIA infiltration of U.S. groups imposed by then-President Jimmy Carter in January 1978. "The CIA is designed to do foreign intelligence, period," Vice Chairman Daniel P. Moynihan, D-N.Y., said after the meeting. Goldwater and Moynihan also announced that the committe staff had com pleted gathering information in its investigation of CIA Director William J. Casey and would write a report, which will be made public. Goldwater said, 'No basis has been found for concluding that Casey is unfit to serve as director of central intelligence." But Moynihan said, "The ultimate findings will await the conclusion of that report." They said they could not predict when that report would be finished.
