"Now the scope of the choir has . expanded and we participate in many more programs both on campus and across the state." Last year the choir traveled to 18 cities in North Carolina, as far west as Shelby and as far east as Belhaven, in addition to performing a dozen times on campus in programs like Discovery, National Achievement and the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. So far this year they have already tra veled to nine cities and performed in four campus events. In a first for the choir, it will go on tour to Washington, D.C., dur ing spring break in March. There the members plan to perform in churches, at colleges and on the steps of the Capitol. When redistricting plans are sent to the Justice Department, they are reviewed to ensure that they are not racially dis criminatory, said John Wilson, assistant director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice. The reviewing process takes 60 days after, which a plan is accepted or rejected, he said. If the plan is rejected, the state must file either a new plan or file a suit in federal court in Washington, D.C., to have the first plan accepted. Wilson said sections of the plans for 22 states must be reviewed this year to en sure that minority voting strength was not diluted. The department, already has re jected both state plans for Virginia, for this reason. Rep. George Hux, D-Halifax, said pas sing the minority review was the primary concern. for the record Due to a copyediting error, a story in The Daily Tar Heel ("Liberal rhetoric hurts cause, NCPAC official says," Thurs day, Nov. 5) identified NCPAC official Steve DeAngelo as saying that by slinging mud and name-calling, liberals were doing what they (liberals) claimed conservatives had done in the past. Haig Jr. and National Security Adviser Richard V. Allen to end dissent among members of his foreign policy team, a White House spokesman told reporters. Reagan called the one-hour meeting, from which he excluded all other aides, in the wake of Haig's public complaint that a White House aide had been run ning a "guerrilla campaign" to discredit him. "The president told them he wanted to ensure that the matters of the past few days are closed," and discussed ways "to stop internal criticisms," spokes man David Gergen said. Queen Elizabeth II and members of both families were delighted, said the palace. "The queen was personally informed of the news by the. prince and princess some days ago," said the palace, adding that Diana was in excellent health.
