State came in second with 907 points. In the men's 'competition, the Tar Heels finished second to the Wolfpack with 402 points. Outstanding Carolina swims came from Sue Walsh, who set a national record in the 50-yard backstroke (25.865); the men's 400-yard medley relay, which broke the existing ACC record; and Eric Ericson, who swam on the medley relay and won the 100-and 200-yard backstrokes. The UNC wrestling team failed tq break N.C. State's stranglehold on the conference title, finishing second in what was basically a two-team ACC tournament in Carmichael Auditorium Sunday.
