By press time Monday night, the basketball race in all divi sions had been narrowed down to just four teams. Residence hall featured a final four of top-ranked Teague A "Syndicate," un-ranked Teague B "Icemen," fifth-ranked Lewis "Sleehrats" and fourth-ranked Teague B "Starjammer." The top-four teams in the frat division were top-ranked Chi Phi, third-ranked and defending champion Omega Psi Phi and un-ranked Beta and Sig Ep. In the talent-rich gradind division it came down to the top-ranked Law "Mudsharks," and un-ranked Kingswood "Polar Bears," Med "Cremasters" and Law-Dent "Long Hard Knights " Cobb "Enjoyed It" was to meet P.E. Crads" for the sparse but competitive women's competitive divi sion title. In the only basketball championship decided last week the Med-Pulmonary "Bromberg Bombers" defeated the Med-Psychiatry "KIR" for the faculty-staff title. Team members are captain Jack Stutts, Dale Spencer, Ric Boucher, Mike Knowles, Cal Cotton, Bill Mentz, Dennis Suich and Mike Madden. There were about 30 winners in the "Jumprope for Heart" jump-a-thon and fund-raiser for the American Heart Association, held last Saturday in Carmichael. The five teams that jumped the maximum three hours, members of which were awarded with IM championship T-shirts, were Pi Phi, Old West Sigma Chi, Chi Omega and a grad team. Pi Phi members are captain Cina Upchurch, Camie Cle ment, Kristen Morrell, Robin Wilkins, Lucy McCullough. Ann Thompson, Stephanie Gardner, Katherine Love and Claire McCamy. T-shirt winners from Old West are captain Bryan Davis, Scott Scrimsher, Adam Wieck, Will Redfern, Eric Hart and Roger Harris. Sigma Chi members are captain Clenn Whit ney, Chuck Hafford, Jim Davis, Greg Baer, Sam Vernon and Randy Dunbar. , Members of the Chi O jumprope team are captain Mar jorie Benbow, Rhonda Kimzey, Missy Bassinger, Jane Re decker, Denie Enderlee and Nicole Storey. The grad team consisted of Mary Sisk, Karl Suiter and Debbie Quails. In a correction, the "Serious Spikers" won the women's grail volleyball tournament held several weeks ago, and not runner-up KA Theta "Kites" as was reported. Spiker members are Amanda Thomas, Amy Springer, Heather McKenzie, Creta Garber, Nell Leazer and Eva Compton. This past week was highlighted by the inaugural gym nastics meet Tuesday and the basketball finals Wednes day. Tomorrow is the deadline for entering team golf, swim meet and all-campus badminton. Play begins to morrow in the weekend racquetball tournament that runs through Sunday. Next week offers a national championship Monday night, IM managers meeting Tuesday night, annual swim meet Thursday night and deadline Friday for turning in all "Jumprope for Heart" donations and for entering the "Ride and Tie" bicycle race. The team golf tourney runs next Fri.-Sun. April 2-4, Finley course. IMportant dates Pre-season softball rankings North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith has al ways sard that pre-season rankings are an indtcation of team strengths from the previous season and little else. Smith is no doubt right but pre-season rankings are interest-provoking and promotiorvaf tools nevertheless, and following is a list of the teams to beat in regular season scftball, based on last season. Because last week's rainy weather allowed for only two days of softball play, current softball rankings could not be legitimately decided.
