As Memorial Day holiday ended, the bulk of North
Carolina's IM-Rec program summer session 1 ac
tivities got underway, Tues., Juna 1 marks the open
ing of pfay in the open softball and basketball
teagues, the "big two in summer IM s.
By press time Friday, 33 teams had signed up for
softball and 27 for basketbalt, according to K.
Franklin, basketball and softball coordinator. No
more teams in either sport can enter, Franklin said.
Scheduling for summer basketball and softball is
a modified instant scheduling system. Team cap
tains signed up for a preferred time slot at the
season's beginning that will be set for the entire
season, not changing game by game as with
semester play. Scheduling Questions should be
directed to Franklin or Assistant IM-Rec Director
Rob Frye.-
Miche'le Lang3n Rushing, coordinator for rac
quetbalt and tennis announced entry deadlines for
those sports have been extended until June 17, the
date playoffs in those sports begin. A team entering
late is still responsible for the three-match require
ment to make playoffs but there is no winning re
quirement to make playoff play, Rushing said.
Playoffs in softball and basketbalt are set to
begin Mon., June 21.
Tomorrow is the deadline for entering next
week's medal play individual golf tournament Play
begins tomorrow in the weekend softball marathon
tournament, which runs through Sunday on Ehr
inghaus field.
Ail basketbalt competition will be held in
Woollen, and all softball competition for the sum
mer is set for Ehringhaus field, not Carmichael.
