advertisment 1 advertlsment SET" 31 n rvn fa) Ik sponsored each week during the fall and spring semesters by the UNC Student Stores Thursday, September 30, 1SS2 Ron Ricci, IM Publicity, SS2H53 Volume 3, Number 6 Chapel Hiit, North Carolina 2) LJ H231L3 8 Almost Anything Goes! A success Four fall I M activities come to an exciting close If anyone walked past the Carmichael fields last Thursday, they no doubt would have stopped to watch the excite ment of Almost Anything Goes! In its in augural year, Almost Anything Goes! was deemed a success by all who par ticipated and especially by the Thunder ing Hearts the first IM Anything Goes! champions. Thirteen teams of three women and three men danced, shuffled together, played piggy-back, downed pizza, and got downright crazy in their efforts to capture the coveted first place plaque. Each team raced against the clock in six events: the Centipede Shuffle, the Balloon Hocquet Relay, the Dance Balloon-a-thon, the Cheap Date Relay, Field Ghoul, and the Scavenger Hunt. The craziest event of the competition may have been the Cheap Date Relay; in this UNC example of barbarism, two members of a team had to wolf down a pizza as fast as they could. When all the smoke cleared from the six events, the Thundering Hearts emerged as the champions with 91 points. The 'Hearts had 64 points before the Scavenger Hunt and picked up an additional 27 after the hunt. The winners received a bouquet of silk roses, an IM plaque and IM champion T-shirts. The second place finishers were Apollo and Goddesses from Joyner and Mangum with 86 points. Taking third place was Sig and the Boys, led by Denise Long from Sigma, Sigma, Sigma, with 79 points. Other fall IM champions have already been decided. Out at Finley Golf Course in the Open Golf Tournament, 22 students, and eight faculty and staff members battled a hazy day seeking the fall golf championship. When all the sand traps were raked, Donnie Luper carded a 71 to capture the low gross in the student division, while Dave Stroupe fired a 75 to claim the facultystaff championship. Mark Blackwell shot a 74 to take second in the student division, and Larry Kupper placed one stroke behind Stroupe with a 76 to finish sec ond in the facultystaff division. Using the Calloway Handicap System to figure low net, Scott Baker captured first low net in the student division with a 71, followed by Bill Inglis, who also carded a 71. In the facultystaff division, Dick. Coop came in with a 71 for first net; Bill Hunter took second low net with a 71. More than 100 of UNC's best frisbee players took over Carmichael field Sept. 19 in quest of the IM Ultimate Frisbee Tournament Championship. After an ex citing day of play, the Moose prevailed over Everett Rogah, 8-7. The members of the Moose included: Jack Molyneaux, Roger Strickland, Toni Jones, Gordon Hudson, Mike Morgan, Eric McCarter, Ben Nissel, Lee Slome, Brent Burk holder, Isa Cheren, Rick Caldwell, Rhon da Dorfman, Kathy Moore, and Cathy Bliss. An added note, highlights of the competition were shown at Mr, Gatti's, as many IM activities will throughout the semester. For all those people under six feet tall, the Napoleon Basketball Tourney also came to an end. In the Men's com petitive division, the Polar Bears from the Physical Education department defeated the Cloud Dwellers, 15-13, for the championship. Members of the Bears were David Smith, Walker Worth, Bobby Miller and Mark Lane. In the men's recreation play, the Clods of Phi Delta Theta defeated Avery 1 15-9 for the crown. The Clods includ ed: Brent Gentry, Jeff Irvin, Reynold Faulkner and Allen Ralls. To close out Napoleon, the Untouchables defeated Gosh Almighty! for the women's cham pionship. Donna Hovis, Kim Grace, Li b by Neville and Lee Tooly were the members of the Untouchables.
