UNC IMers put on a great show, but it was not enough to capture Co-Rec Sports Day, as State took the crown over UNC-G, UNC-C, and Carolina. "We didn't win a lot of the events," said Rob Frye, assis tant director of Intramurals, "but we did have some outstanding performances." Carolina could only field teams for the racquet ball, volleyball, billiards and tennis competitions. The UNC billiards team of Ann Bern us, Roger Strick land, Debbie Johnson and Gary Lavore took second. In volleyball, the team of John Grissom, Kevin Fairley, Tim Cooke, John Crawford, Caren Cham pion, Brenda Head and Eva Conrtpton finished third. Tennis, players Leon. Wellons, Julia Roe and Sylvia Sanchez placed third. In a tough racquetball -field, Chris McNeill, Burton Matherly, Mark Stone and Susan Kirkman finished up in fourth place. The IM office extends its thanks to all who participated for UNC and is looking forward to the spring Big 4 Sports Day, where UNC IMers get a chance to take on State again, as well as Duke and Wake Forest. Out on the Cobb-Joyner tennis courts, the Team Tennis competition came to an exciting end. According, to Associate IM Director Marty Pomerantz, this year's play was as competitive as ever and many players turned in superb perfor mances for their units. In the men's competitive' division, the DW Crime Stoppers from Granville DW took the championship over Everett, 115 points to 105. The winning Crime Stoppers included: Doug Knox, Geoff Nance, David White, Jeff Sowers, Terry Brayboy, David Johnson and Jack Kester. POT Blue captured the fraternity crown from Chi Phi, 115 points to 100. Leading the frat champions were Thornton Withers, Rob Wilson, Osborne Ayscue, David Keesler, Chalk Broughton, Kelly Neal, Dee Cordell and Jeff Irvin. In the men's recrea tional division, Anaconda Once from Old East Dor mitory played some tough tennis to win the title. John Lowe, Allen Taylor, Brad Herring and Ma'an Nasir comprised the winners from Old East. The graduateindependent division came to a close finish, with the T.A. Stringers from the Physical Education department defeating the Pro Kids, 35 points to 30. The winning TA's included: David Haynes, Don Waloman, David Smith, Dan Rosenberg, Bill Lown and Bill Paladino. In the women's recreational division, the McStrokers from Mclver Residence Hall captured the championship from the Mclver Match, 50 points to 40. The McStrokers were led by Kim Ross, Andrea Schifeno, Jill Rutherford, Jenny Enright, Kay Hoover and Jackie Hillard. The Cobb Racquetteers took ad vantage of the nearby courts to win the women's competitive division from the Spencer Strokers, 55 points to 40. One of four Cobb teams in the competi tion, the Racquetteers included: Kim Doughton," Tricia Arthur, Cindy Bell and Lorie Croson. Well, forget about Nugget and concentrate on the soccer playoff pairings, which will be posted in the IM office. Saturday, Nov. 13 The Cavaliers from Virginia stop by Kenan for a little action on the football field. The only real action will be bet ween the mascots. Monday, Nov. 15 Grail Mural Basketball starts. Seedings will be posted on the boards outside the IM office. After some basketball, stop by the Carmichael fields for the start of the soccer playoffs. Tuesday, Nov. 16 Stop everything! Take out your calendar and make a note of this: the IM Ski Trip Meeting will be held in 304 Woollen at 8:00 p.m. No matter how you spell it, this trip will be f-u-n. ' ' Thursday, Nov. 18 The race for the turkeys the Turkey Trot will start at 4:00 p.m. You must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the race to register for this Carolina favorite. Turkeys will go to winners in the follow ing categories: Man, woman, team of three men, team of three-women and the fastest finisher over 40 years of age. An IM t-shirt will also go to the finisher whose costume best represents the Thanksgiving theme. Friday, Nov. 19 Keep your eyes on the BEAT DOOK parade. ANNOUNCEMENTS This is your last chance to participate in a Lifetime Leisure Activities Program clinic. On Nov. 15 in 304 Woollen from 6:00-9:00 pjn., a clinic for beginners in' backpacking and hiking will be held. The registration deadline is TODAY. Contact Rob Frye in the IM office for more details.
