Model UN Club places second

The UNC Model United Nations Club placed
second in a national conference held at the
University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
Nov. 18-21.
Selected colleges sent delegations repre
senting actual countries to participate in the
conference, said Adrienne Meddock, the
1981-82 president of the UNC Model United
Nations Club.
The students debated contemporary issues
that are being discussed at the real United Na
tions, such as the Iran-Iraq war and rules for
transnational corporations.
Awards were given by the sponsors of the
conference to those delegations which most
successfully represented national interests and
debated well, Meddock said.

to Duke University, which represented Kenya.
"The success of our club at Penn is impor
tant," Meddock said. "It shows other colleges
that we are something to reckon with."
UNC will represent Angola in the Nationals
Conference, a prestigious conference held in
the New York UN building from Mar. 29-Apr. 2.
Awards also are given to individual dele-'
gates. Winners from UNC were Charlie
Madison and Scott Humphrey, both on the
Togo delegation. '
1982-83 president of the UNC Model UN
Gub Patricia Wallace said she was pleased
with the success of the club at the conference.
"Increased preparation should allow us to do
even better next time," she said. "At the very
least we hope to do better than Duke."
