The five-member team was selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association from District III teams which include the states of Maryland, North and South Carolina, Virginia and the District of Columbia. The Atlantic Coast Conference dominated the District III squad, landing four of the five spots. Joining Crawford are Linda Page of N.C. State, Jasmina Pcrazic and Marsha Richardson of Maryland and Anne Dovonan of Old Dominion. All-District selection is the first step in the process to pick the 1983 Kodak Women's All-American Team. Crawford, a 6-0 senior forward from Youngsville, became UNC's all-time leading scorer and set or tied six other school records. She led the ACC in field goal percentage for the second straight year, hitting 62.3 percent of her shots to rank her sixth in the nation in that category. Crawford was second in the ACC in scoring for the second straight year with an average of 18.5, setting a new conference seasonal record in addi tion to her 14.5 career total, which was a school record. UNC's softball squad continued on its up and down season with a doubleheader split Tuesday In game one, the Tar Heels defeated UNC-Charlotte 6-4 behind strong perfor mances from Melissa Jerrell and Rose Borkowski, who were each 2-for-3 from the plate. Jerrell added a triple to the win ning effort. UNC trailed 4-0 in the fourth inning when a five-run explosion put the Tar Heels up for good. Barbara Pritchard was the winner at the mound. In game two, Pfieffer turned the tables on the women with a 3-0 shutout of the Tar Heels. Pfieffer limited UNC to only three hits, while running up eight hits of their own. Pfieffer's only runs came in the fourth and sixth innings as UNC's overall record dropped to 7-7. UNC takes on N.C. State at home today, beginning at 3 p.m. Although North Carolina's women's track team narrowly lost to Appalachian State last Saturday 74-53, UNC freshmen dominated the results. Freshman Holly Murray won her first college race running the 5000m in 17:47. Becky Calhoun, another freshman, won the 1500 and took second in the 800. After a superb indoor season, Shunta Robinson won the shot, and freshman Alisa Murray won the 400. In the. 60-ydL hurdles, junior Yvette Morehead took first and freshman Nan Rochat finished third. All Rights Reserved 33183 This weekend the women's team will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the prestigious Colonial Relays against such teams as St. John's, William & Mary, James Madison, George Mason and Richmond. Last weekend the men's and women's golf teams learned it wasn't nice to fool with Mother Nature. The women's team was scheduled to play in the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C. But the spring tournament was cancelled because of eight inches of snow. The men's team experienced problems of a different nature no pun intended at the Palmetto Classic in Orangeburg, S.C. Because of late starting times the first and second rounds were called due to darkness. By Sunday, two rounds had been completed but the third round never got underway. The women's next match will be at the Duke Spring Invitational, April 22-24, in Durham. The men's team hosts the Tar Heel Invitational April 8-10 at Finley Golf Course. - J I I ; ' i . i'iuk V , r - r - ' 1. Miami (Florida) 38-8 2. Texas . 32-7 3. Houston 29-2 4. Stanford 19-5-1 5.
