stitution that's unique," Henry said last
week. "I don't think the little girls should
have to pay sales tax."
But as far as the Girl Scouts are con
cerned, that's the way the cookie
crumbles, said Hardy Movers, deputy
revenue commissioner for Tennessee.
"There's nothing in the law that says
you can sell something and be exempt
from the sales tax," he said. "A
charitable organization can buy
something, like a typewriter, and that's
tax-exempt. But if it turned around and
sold the typewriter, it would have to be
taxed."
