President Amin Gemayel was reported ready to scrap the May 17 agreement, as demanded by Syria and its Lebanese Moslem and Druse allies, government sources said. But several Christian leaders warned they would withdraw their sup port for Gemayel, a Maronite Christian, if the pact were abrogated.
