2The Daily Tar HeelTuesday, April 3, 1984 Atlanta mayor will speak in Memorial Hall Gunmen fire in Jerusalem By TOM CONLON Staff Writer Andrew Young, mayor of Atlanta and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, will speak in Memorial Hall Wednesday at 8 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. The lecture, sponsored by the forum committee of the Carolina Union Activities Board, will cover general in ternational relations, blacks in the 1984 elections and other areas of specialty in which Young has been involved. "We brought Mayor Young here as we feel he can tell us valuable facts on international relations, civil rights hearings next year. The Finance Committee allow ed for a 5 percent inflationary increase in salary but rejected a 5 percent merit in crease request. Student Legal Services Director Dottie Bernholz, present at the hearing, said the only truly feasible cutback in the service's projected budget was elimination of the merit increase. She asked that the Finance Committee seriously consider the ramifi cations of cutting the projected salaries below the inflationary increase. Gaye death unresolved LOS ANGELES A Los Angeles police detective said that "we may never know" the reason for the murder of singer Marvin Gaye Sunday afternoon, after an argument that began Saturday.
