"It's not that big of a problem," Mor ris said last week. "There is something about each case (of late aid) which makes it hard to deal with." But Kevin White, a second-year law that the aid process was computer- film containing footage of the anti Klan demonstration on Nov. 3, 1979, in Greensboro, will be presented at 7:30 tonight in the Student Union. Marty Nathan will be a featured speaker. student from Asheville, found that get automated, and as a result, the computers ting his financial aid 2Vz months late was indeed a problem. White applied through the Student Aid Office in March 1983 for a law scholarship he was scheduled to receive on Jan. 8. He didn't get his award until March 23. "I haven't been this poor in quite some time," White said. While waiting for his scholarship money, White said he had to take out an emergency loan to pay his said. "My roommate had to coverrent for me, because I had no money." Morris, however, says the delays in financial aid awards are caused by students' failure to follow application in structions. "Students must make sure the Univer sity records office has their current ad dress," she said. Financial aid informa tion may never reach the students whose addresses are wrong, and everything in the Student Aid Office's files must be complete for awards to be made on time. Morris said this year was the first time had a few problems. "We finished (giving aid) this past year earlier than we have ever finished before. Of course, there are some slips in the cracks." Students should be more diligent in completing their application forms with the required information, submitting them on time and checking with the Stu dent Aid Office if the award is late, Mor ris said. "If students' files are complete by May, they ought to sail on through," she said. Yet all his forms were submitted to the Student Aid Office, he said. "Nothing you can do will speed them up. People don't care about students. You're a . disenfranchised person, a desperate client of bureaucracy." Another student, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she was forcedjto leave the University last falffcecause her finan cial aid was late. Misplaced papers and a computer error delayed verification of her acceptance papers, which in turn slowed down the aid process. As a result, uw buck EtunMSEiB FjnsiHnrl four corners I 175 E.
