By MIKE GUNZENHAUSER Staff Writer Students getting away for the holiday weekend will find gasoline prices 10 percent lower than Labor Day last year, according to this month's Daily Tar Heel gas survey. For beach-bound Tar Heels, The DTH also surveyed six gas stations on the Carolina coast. Prices averaged two cents higher than regular and unleaded at local stations but were the same for premium unleaded. Elizabeth Powell of Gas World at Carolina Beach said prices have been about the same the past month and that she did not expect them to increase for the holiday weekend. Locally, Sav-a-Ton in Carrboro had the least expensive regular gas at $ 1 .02 per gallon. Airport Road Gulf and Eastgate Amoco in Chapel Hill sold the lowest priced gas at full-service pumps at $ 1 .22 per gallon. Prices are also down since last April's survey. Regular gas has decreased six cents per gallon, unleaded five cents,' inrl nremium nn'rlpd five cents Applications for Toronto Exchange available By MIKE ALLEN SUff Writer Applications for the 1984-85 Toronto Exchange program are now available for UNC students and may be picked up at the Carolina Union information desk. 40 University of Toronto students will trade places the last week of October with 40 UNC students who will visit Toronto the second week of January. According to Bill Barlow, treasurer for the exchange, approximately 300 applications are expected and out of those received, 18 men and 18 women participants will be chosen based on diversity of interests and interviews by exchange coordinators Barlow, Katrina Sellers, James Dempson and Kathleen Kincaid. The purpose of the exchange is to provide students with a cultural exchange of lifestyles, attitudes and practices of the U.S. south with those in southeastern Canada. The Canadian students will be taken to a Baptist church, given a taste of Southern cooking and offered the opportunity to soak up a UNC football game. The program was started 30 years ago by UNC President William Friday and a past president of the University of Toronto. Friday has written a letter of support for the organization and has offered to host a luncheon for the Canadian students when they arrive in Chapel Hill. The exchange is funded in part by the Campus Governing Council, but members will be required to pay a due of $60 to finance the bus trip to Toronto. Also, each member is asked to do his share in raising approximately $5,000, help with administrative duties, lodge a co-participant from Toronto, help with transportation and meals for the Canadian students and help with events during the Canadians' stay. The exchange raises funds from doughnut sales, raffle tickets, and party donations. m mm ELLIOT ROAD at E.
