Jim Martin's guber natorial campaign are pleased with a poll showing Martin is closing on Democratic Attorney General Rufus Edmisten, but an Edmisten spokesman questions the accuracy of the survey. The Charlotte Observer Poll published Monday showed Edmisten was chosen by 51 percent of those surveyed Sept. 5 11 to 39 percent for Martin with 9 percent undecided. But an Observer Poll in June showed Edmisten led Martin 60 percent to 25 percent with about 14 percent undecided. Dan Hoover, EdmisterTs press secretary, questioned Martin's 16 point advance. "That is so out of whack with everything we have seen elsewhere," Hoover said. "Other polls weVe had access to have shown Martin with more like 20. This was commissioned by The Observer and The Observer's been cheerleading for Charlotte candidates all along, first Eddie Knox and now Jim Martin." Knox, a former Charlotte mayor, was eliminated in the J. B. Johnson's Balfour House. College Stop, Inc. n a- at t 1504 E. Franklin Chapel Hill, NC 919-929-1820 GET YOUR ORDER IN EARLY! We didnt even begin our TV ads until Sept. 5, so your poll caught them before much of our three week ad campaign," he said. Martin, who flew to Washington on Friday to film TV ads with President Reagan, said the poll showed "things are working the way we want it to. I'm glad the election wasn't a week ago, but this shows that we have to get known. We started out behind and we knew it. But he's going down and we're going up." Edmisten, campaigning in Linville on Friday, said a 12 point lead was "very fine" but added that it was "too early to tell. Polls simply don't mean much to me at this early stage. "My greatest challenge will be to get out my vote," Edmisten said. "I dont have to convince one other person to change their vote, just get to the polls what I have." 4 pm and 8 pm. "No wonder the world has the jitters," said the Democratic presi . dential candidate, currently trailing the President by large margins in most polls, as he assaulted Reagan's record in U.S.-Soviet relations, Central America, human rights and Middle Eastern policy. In an address to a group of Jewish supporters, Mondale said Reagan has been "essentially absent" from the search for peace in the Middle East and "has squandered the prom ise of the Camp David accords between Egypt and Israel." In the same period, other members of the Council of State, as well as N.C. Memorial Hospital, were charged $600 per hour for the 222 craft and $315 per hour for the 206B. Flaherty said the suit was not politically motivated, and that he planned to follow through with it regardless , of the outcome of Hunt's election challenge to Republican Sen. Jesse Helms.
