French suspected in Greenpeace

Two members of France's Defense
Ministry were charged with blowing
up a ship in New Zealand a few days'
before the vessel, which belonged to
Greenpeace, was to lead a protest
against French nuclear tests at a
South Pacific atoll.
Two bombs magnetically attached
to the hull of the Rainbow Warrior
sank the ship while still in harbor and
killed the ship's Portuguese photo
grapher. Arrested were Sophie
Turenge, 36, and Jacques Turenge,
34, both officers in the French army,
who were reportedly on a mission to
gather information about the vessel.
France's state-owned radio denied
that they had been sent to destroy
the ship.
French President Francois Mitter
rand has ordered a "rigorous
investigation."

plaster of Paris.
Dr. Jacob S. Hanker, professor of

, Hanker said the- process, which
should receive a patent later this year,
is an improvement over bone graft

patient's rib or hip is grafted onto
the damaged area. With the new
method, Hanker said, the patient
need not undergo secondary surgery
for bone extraction, and the process
also eliminates the risk that the
transplant will be reabsorbed by the
body.

Four survivors of Japan wreck
Rescuers have found only four
survivors of Japanese Air Lines
Flight 123, which crashed in a remote
mountain region of Japan. The other
520 passengers are believed dead in
the worst crash of a single airplane
in aviation history.
Two women and two girls who had
been sitting in the back part of the
plane were admitted to Japanese
hospitals after being airlifted from
the crash site by helicopter.
A faulty vertical stabilizer has been
cited as a possible cause of the wreck.
The stabilizer controls the ship's
direction from the tail of the plane,
and part of one was found at sea by
the, crew of a construction tanker
about 100 miles from the crash.
Chapel Hill has received a $39,000
grant from the Institute of Museum
Services.
The grant, which will be used
during the 1985-86 school year, will
be used by the planetarium to
strengthen its community, support
through the membership program,
according to Dr. Lee Shapiro, pla
netarium director.
