Ticket distribution policies are one of the more important
things in many North Carolina student's life, ranking right
in there with frat parties and cutting classes. Clip this article
and save it to tell you how to get one of the more cherished
commodities on the UNC campus great seats for football
and basketball games.
The policy will remain basically the same for football and
basketball games this year, but there have been a few changes
all students should be aware of.
Individual tickets for football games will be distributed
randomly at the Ticket Office beginning at 8:30 a.m. the
Wednesday prior to each home game. The first distribution
will be Wednesday, Sept. 1 1 for the LSU game.
Students may pick up a ticket with their valid student
ID, registration card and athletic pass (all three of these
are required) and may sit in groups of one to six. Students
also have the option of bringing up to five other student
ID's, registration cards and athletic passes and being able
to pick up six tickets for football. No student may pick
up more than six tickets. -
- For block seating during football games, groups of 20
to 100 may send a representative to sign up for block seats
between 8:30 a.m. and noon each Monday before a home
game. When representatives sign up for a bloc1 they must
also turn in all athletic passes to the ticket office at
Carmichael. The blocks will be randomly drawn and the
results posted at- 3:00 p.m. Monday in Carmichael
Auditorium and the Student Union.
Representatives may check to see if their block was
successful, and if they dont receive block seating, all athletic
passes will be returned to the representative. On Tuesday,
successful representatives may pick up athletic passes and
tickets between 8:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Carmichael.
Student guest tickets are available on a season basis for
k3
$42 and on an individual game basis for $14 per game. A
student is limited to one season guest ticket or one individual
game guest ticket for one or all of the games. Guest tickets
may be purchased at the Ticket Office beginning Friday from
,8:30 to 4:30 p.m. and must be purchased in advance of ticket
distributions.
The basketball ticket policy is still a bit unsettled due to
the possible opening of the new Student Activities Center.
Tickets will still be distributed on weekends only, but the
seating will be totally random, with no distinction between
permanent and bleacher seats. No guest tickets are available
for the regular season games in Carmichael. Guest tickets
will be available beginning Oct. 14 for the Blue-White games
and the exhibition game with the Greek National team.
If and when the Student Activities Center opens, ticket
distribution will be held in that building on the same dates
below, the chief difference being the increased number of
tickets for students.

Fair Heels lose tme Mend m Woods
The University of North Carolina lost
a good friend over the summer.
Ray E. "Monty" Woods, Assistant
Sports Information Director at the
school, died after a long illness May
21. He was buried in his hometown of
Cedar Grove, West Virginia.
Monty was just 26 when he left us,
but those of us whose lives he touched
will remember him for a long time.
He was a hard worker, a devoted man
and a good friend.
Other ACC sports information peo
ple used to kid Monty about how
comprehensive the baseball statistics he
compiled were. "Hey, Monty, you mean
you don't even have their won-loss
record on Thursdays when it was
raining?" they would facetiously ask.
But they understood what he put into
his work, and they respected him for
it.
That devotion Monty had for his job
showed. The UNC baseball yearbooks
he came out with were a class act, and
he won national awards from CoSIDA
(College Sports Information Directors
of America) for publications he had
produced while at Ohio University.
He was a great person to work with:
always willing to help out, to lend a
hand, to go that extra distance to make
sure you had the information you
needed when you left his office.
But the most outstanding individual
characteristic of Monty Woods was that
he was just a real nice guy. He genuinely
cared about the people around him.
There was a low-key charm and wit to
him that made everyone who knew him
feel like they had a sincere, honest
friend.

There was very little summer vacation
for the UNC women's golf team.
Instead of living it up at the beach,
the team members honed their skills by
J playing in amateur tournaments that
i will give them added experience heading
into the fall season, according to head
coach Dot Gunnells.
Three players qualified for the U.S.
Women's Amateur. Seniors Kandi
Kessler and Kelly Beck, along with
incoming freshman Donna Andrews,
represent the most golfers ever to
qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur

last year, and with the experience gained
over the summer and the addition of
three talented freshman, they hope to
improve on last year's high finish,
Gunnells said. The Tar Heels must
replace Page Marsh; but Gunnells said
she was looking for good seasons out
of seniors Kessler and Beck.
"They are definitely going to be the
leaders of this team, Gunnells said of
Kessler and Beck, who both played in
the top five last year.
One other senior returns from last
year's team, Leigh Hunnicutt. "She has
worked hard. I hope she will break into
the top five," Gunnells said.
In addition to qualifying for the U.S.
Women's Amateur this summer,
Kessler and Beck also did well in other
tournaments. Kessler advanced to the
quarterfinals of the Southern Amateur
and the Women's Western Amateur.
Beck reached the semifinals of the
Women's Southern Amateur.
"She lost on the 17th hole to her
teammate, Page Marsh," Gunnells said.
Beck also placed third in the North
Carolina Women's Amateur.
Two juniors, Angela Wells and
Kathleen Grady, return from last year's
squad. "Angela made the top five last
year several times. I think she will help
us this year," Gunnells said.
Gunnells said the three incoming
freshman, Katie Peterson, Sonna
- Andrews -and Suzy-MeGuire;' are some
- of the most -experienced2 freshman- sho
1 has ever' had due Jt6 'theif plajT brTthe
summer amateur circuit.
"Peterson just won the AJG A (Amer
ican Junior Golf Association) Tourna
ment of Champions," Gunnells added.
"She won the AJGA Hudson and she
also led her high school team to the
Florida state championship.
"Donna Andrews won the Virginias
Women's Stroke Play Championship,
The Virginia Women's Match Play
Championship and she got to the finals
of the Trans-National."
McGuire is the New York State
Junior Champion and qualified for the
championship flight of the Broadmoor
Tournament, she added.
Gunnells enters the season with
optimism. "I am excited," she said. "I
feel like we will have a good year. All
three of our freshmen have a lot of
experience."
The women's golf schedule was not
available at press time.
