undergraduates today and Wednesday
as part of the annual Undergraduate
Business Symposium.
"Unlike most other career days, the
business symposium is designed to be
an educational activity rather than a
recruiting event," said Peter Topping,
director of the undergraduate program.
"Therefore, we attract top-level execu
tives to represent their industries.

BALTIMORE John Walker
and his son Michael pleaded guilty
Monday to charges that they took
American military secrets and gave
them to the Soviet Union.
1 The Walkers pleaded guilty as part
of an agreement with the government
to prevent the courtmartial of
Michael, 22, a sailor last stationed
on the aircraft carrier Nimitz.
John Walker, 48, the chief planner
of the spy conspiracy, will receive
two life terms plus 10 years. Michael
Walker will get 25 years plus four
10-year terms.
Before the agreement, Walker
might have recieved two life terms
plus 30 years and a $1 million fine.
Indian guru arrested

were arrested Monday at Charlotte
Douglass International Airport as
they tried to escape to Bermuda.
U.S. Customs officials waited for
the two planes transporting Raj
neesh and his group to land. Raj
neesh was apprehended at about 2
a.m.
He was taken from the second
plane in handcuffs after officials had
monitored his flight from his Raj
neeshpuram commune in Oregon.
Rajneesh was taken to the U.S.

Hurricane wrecks oil rigs
NEW IBERIA, La. The Coast
Guard said about 100 people were
left on rafts or on their damaged
platforms as Hurricane Juan des
troyed three offshore oil rigs as it
crossed the Gulf of Mexico Monday.
The hurricane hit the central
Louisiana coast Monday, bringing
high winds, tornadoes and torrential
. rain.
A Coast Guard helicopter looked
for an oil rig that left sight before
dawn as the stranded people waited
to be rescued.
A total of 41 had been taken to
safety from several rigs by 8 a.m.
Monday morning, officials said.
Patient receives human heart
Doctors Monday transplanted a
human heart into Thomas Gaidosh,
47, who had been living with a
Jarvik-7 artificial heart for five days.
Gaidosh underwent a 3'i-hour
operation beginning at 2:25 a.m. at
Pittsburgh's Presbyterian University
Hospital, where he was in critical
condition afterward, a hospital
spokesman said.
