The consensus of fishermen at
Jordan Lake was that the fishing was
slow. They said it had to be expected
after the many days of 100-degree
weather.

"The middle of the summer's here
and the fish start to slow down.
Just as striped bass do during
warmer weather, the v largemouths
start identifying themselves with
structures near the bottom of the
lake. Their body metabolism rates
slow down and they generally don't
feed except during early morning and
late afternoon or evening hours when
the sun is not directly shining on the
water.
"You have to realize that the fish
aren't very active when the weather
turns this hot," Farely said. "They'd
just as soon move around as little
as possible and feed when it's most
convenient to them, so fishermen
aren't going to have much luck unless
they plan to spend a whole day on
the lake."
For now, the water and oxygen
levels continue to drop, the temper
atures continue to hover in the mid
to upper 90s, and fishermen continue
to meet with limited results.
