programs. Their talk show, Northern
Hemisphere Live, which recently
moved from its Wednesday night
time slot to Sunday afternoon from
4 p.m. to 6 p.m., discusses a variety
of campus subjects. Last year they
broadcast a debate between student
body president candidates Bryan
Hassel, David Brady and campus
comedian Billy Warden.
Also on Sundays from noon to 4
p.m. is the Jazz Show. According to
XYC deejay Jeff Robins, because the
deejays are on a rotating schedule
and have different tastes, you can
turn on the radio and know it's going
to be jazz but not know what type
of jazz.
On Sunday mornings from 9 a.m.

"Of all places, the University
should be operated within the law
and not outside of it," Kuncl said.
"We don't want to provide a haven
where people feel they can freely
violate the law and get away with
it. We're going to be focusing on
behavior, and those people that dont
want to act responsibly or within the
guidelines set by RHA may find
themselves being made to leave
University Housing facilities. That
will continue to be the ultimate
sanction that we can hand out."

XYC's sports department is quite
busy during the year, too. They cover
three Carolina sports, specializing in
women's basketball. They also cover
some important lacrosse games, such
as this past year's national champion
ship match between Carolina and
Virginia, and follow the Heel's
baseball team through the post
season. Students run all of the XYC
programs. In fact, in order to be hired
by Burton, one must- be a student
at the University. .
For students interested in working
with radio there are two jobs they
can do tell the news or spin
records. Becoming a disc . jockey,
especially as a freshman, is not very
easy, Burton warns, simply because
the position requires extensive knowl
edge of all types of music. Burton
said he believed that most students
had not been exposed enough to all
kinds of music. He advises that
students listen to XYC for a year or
two before trying out for a time slot
as a jock.
Behen likes working at the station
because it allows her to meet a lot
of people, while Robins enjoys being
exposed to to all the music and
sharing what he learns with his
audience. "It's a challenge because
you're trying to make it flow. It's kind
of a game finding the right song,"
says Behen.
The easiest way to get started is
as a newscaster. Burton himself
began his XYC career doing the
news. People interested in working
in the fall should come by the XYC
office in the Student Union and ask
to see either the news director or
Burton.
