Three Chapel Hill and Carrboro
men received bond judgments in
Orange County Superior Court
Friday following their arrest last
week in connection with drug
The three, including a UNC
student, were arrested for possession
and sale or intent to sell drugs in
a four-month undercover operation
that involved several law enforce
ment agencies in the area.
A probable hearing cause will be
held Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. in Orange
County Superior Court in Hillsbo
rough, said Joan Terry, assistant
clerk of court.
Agents working on the case pur
chased about 10 ounces of cocaine
worth about $20,000 on the street
from one of the suspects. In total,
several thousand dollars worth of
drugs were involved.
Police arrested three men: Arnold
Kevin Watkins, 29, of Chapel Hill;
Clifford Lyle Powell, 24, of Chapel
Hill; and Michael Charles Burrough,
24, of Carrboro.
Watkins, a student at the Univer
sity's department of city and regional
planning, is charged with many drug
related offenses, including traffick
ing in cocaine, conspiracy to traffic
in cocaine, conspiracy to sell and
deliver cocaine, felonious possession
with intent to sell and deliver a
controlled substance, sale and deliv
ery of cocaine, misdemeanor posses
sion of marijuana and possession of
Watkins was issued a secured
bond of $100,000 Friday and
released from custody Monday
Powell, who works with retarded
children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro
City School System, is charged with
these drug-related offenses:
possession with intent to sell and
deliver cocaine, sale and delivery of
cocaine, conspiracy, conspiracy to
traffic in cocaine and trafficking in
Powell's secured bond was set at
$70,000. He was released Monday
afternoon after his bond was reduced
to $3,000 in cash or $10,000 secured
Burrough, a self-employed car
penter, is charged with the following
offenses: possession with intent to
sell and deliver cocaine, sale and
delivery of cocaine, felonious posses
sion of cocaine with intent to sell
and deliver and possession . with
intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
Burrough's secured bond was set
at $40,000. He was released Monday
