chairman of the Board of Trustees,
predicted a vote in favor of full
divestment possibly as soon as the
board's next meeting in February.

was quoted as saying of the 6-5 vote.
Farris W. Womack, vice
chancellor for business and finance,
addressed the trustees during their
Dec. 12 meeting. In a telephone
interview Tuesday night Womack
said he told the board at the meeting
that investment in South Africa was
not a good risk due to the nation's
deteriorating economy.
Conditions in South Africa have
made investment there subject to a
higher risk a condition aggravated
by sanctions imposed by Congress
and the exodus of 81 corporations
in the last two to three years,
Womack said. "South Africa is a
disproportionate risk and should be
avoided," he said.
