The Tar Heel Thursday, July 16, 198719 Intramural program gives athletic outlet By STEPHEN GILES Staff Writer The North Carolina Intramural-Recreational (IM REC) sports program offers Tar Heel students one of the most diverse selections of activities of , any university in the country. This program is administered as a part of the Department of Physical Education, to provide an outlet for UNC students to participate in a variety of sports activities with a broad range of competitive levels. The Intramural program con sists of over 50 different activities ranging from the popular team events such as football and basketball to individual events to various novelty events in which anything goes, according to IM REC publicicist Chip Pate, There's something for everyone. In addition, the IM-REC department employs students as officials, supervisors, faculty mon itors, office personnel and fitness instructors. The Intramural program also provides competitive leagues for fraternity and residence hall teams. Though these events lack some of the glamour and fanfare that students may have found in high school sports, they are def initely not lacking in competitiveness. The Club Sports program recently received an appropriation from student fee increases, which will create the position of Club Sports Director. This program allows inter-collegiate competition with teams from each of the separate schools in the ACC and also with the non-ACC schools from the surrounding area. The schools are comprised into confer ences and compete in a broad range of sports which stress team work, but also provide for indi vidual competition. Eating out from page 18 a sort-of pizza of unknown nationality. They also serve wond erful desserts at good prices. Although hidden away down a small staircase, Tripodi's is usually busy. Pizza anyone? Well, when you're in the mood, Italian Pizzeria on West Franklin has the best. It's run by stern, dangerous-looking Italians, or maybe Sicilians, who mutter unintelligibly while they make your pie. If you have Mom or Dad's credit card, or a fat wallet, dress up and go to La Residence, a private home on Rosemary Street converted into a French restau rant. Very expensive. Gives you shivers just walking by the place. A lot of fine eateries have been left off this list, but that cant be helped. Remember, don't study so hard that you end up eating all your meals on campus and thus NEW ;ong FEE Whet could b better than our regular low prices?
