If you're sick of being an old college person, in about an hour's drive you can go to a place where
i it's acceptable to relive your childhood, and talk to the animals. Features Editor Julie Braswell
and Omnibus Editor Cathy McHugh take you to the elephants, monkeys, lions, giraffes and exotic
birds who live in their natural habitats at the North Carolina Zoological Park near Asheboro. Africa
currently exists within the park, and six more continents are on the way with Project North America
in the development process. So, go ahead talk to the animals. Don't be shy, they won't bite you.
7 Staff writer Allison Pike brings you the stories of two bands who just like to play rock 'n' roll.
-The Veldt, a locally based band, and A Picture Made, whose members hail from Kansas, will be
bringing their pop-edged musical sounds to our quiet little town next week.
Joe Bob spent this week with a bunch of psychologists (you know, shrinks). Find out if he's going
to survive "El Chico digestibus." And don't forget to check out "The Curse," and the football player
who probably wishes he'd had his lucky rabbit foot. The Vomit Meter is in full working order.
7 Meet Ariel Dorfman, a writer who has the distinction of being the only person to have been exiled
from Chile twice. Despite technical tape recorder troubles, staff writer Chris Cain tells you about
this complex man who currently has the best-selling book in Chile, and why he wishes his books
were less successful and his life more peaceful.
Olt was a short week, and you've got lots of excess energy to burn, right? Refrains of "How was
O your break?" are beginning to die down, and you're ready to go out and pursue hedonistic, or
perhaps cultural types of activities. Need any ideas? Check 'em out in Week's Fare.
Staff: Francine Allen, Chris Cain, Joanne Gordon, Karen Hatton. Jenny Livingston, Beth Miller,
Kathy Peters, Allison Pike; Lisa Lorentz, copy editor; Ruth Davis, layout design.
