The Norman invasion started off with Oliver Lorin's 6-4, 6-2 romp past UNC's No. 1 player, Don Johnson. The destruction continued as OU's Chris Toomey rocked James Krege, 6-1,6-3. The Tar Heels attempted to climb back into the match when Thomas Tanner downed J.J. Ganz, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, but Oklahoma's fourth seed, Andre Schmidt, got past John Bristow, 6-4, 6-3, and Mark Sentriss outlasted UNC's Andre Janasik, 6 7, 7-6, 7-5 at No. 5. Chris Leap rounded out Oklaho ma's singles domination by decision ing Carter Griffin, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. UNC dropped two of the three doubles matches, with only the team of Janasik and David Kessler emerg ing victorious, drubbing Schmidt and Sentriss, 6-2, 6-4. Oklahoma improved to 5-1 with the win. UNC fell to 6-4. B Oops! While we waded through the flood of Tar Heel sports action over break, we left out one squad women's tennis. The Tar Heel netters had perhaps the best trip of all the teams as they went California Dreamin'. On Thurs day, though, the Tar Heels lost a tough one at Cal-Irvine, 5-4. The two squads were all tied up after six singles matches, but the Anteaters (yes, that's their nickname) took two of the three doubles events. The telling blow came from the tandem of Kelly Goldsborough and Karin Bering, who had lost singles matches earlier, as they defeated UNC's Valerie Farmer and Dianna McCarthy, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the final match of the day. But the Tar Heels bounced back Friday, skunking Long Beach State 9-0. Top seed Anne Stephenson got things going with a 7-6, 6-3 win, while Gina Goblirsch crushed Paula Ben nion 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 to further the rout. After the trip, the Tar Heels' record stood at 7-4. 1? 0011L PCoXIIu oXM 1WJ2M11S12)AV MEN'S TENNIS vs. N.C.
