" 968-3983 JfT ) J SSJ I fO Royal PartJ VSyT From staff reports UNC quarterback Jonathan Hall has begun rehabilitation on his right shoulder after undergoing arthro scopic surgery Monday. Hall, a junior from Vienna, Va., missed the 1987 season because of shoulder problems. When he devel oped pain this spring, the arthroscope was performed. "We found a fiberous band that was tethering the biceps tendon in his right shoulder," said Dr. Timothy Taft, who performed the procedure. "We removed the band, and the , tendon was then able to move more "normally. This should help Jonathan throw more easily." Hall was released from Student Health Service Tuesday and has started rehabilitation. He will be on a motion and strength program for several weeks. The most experienced quaterback on the Tar Heel roster, Hall started the final three games of the 1985 season as a true freshman and the first five games of 1986. A knee injury forced him out of action in that fifth game. So Sixty-four's turned Sweet Six teen, and by the time Sunday evening rolls around, the number of teams left in the 50th NCAA Tournament will be down to four. Here, region-by-region, is a look at the remaining contenders for the national championship, as well as one writer's guess as to which teams will comprise the Final Four in Kansas City. West Many are calling the Seattle Four North Carolina, Michigan, Ariz ona and Iowa a stronger group than most of the first 49 Final Fours. The team that emerges from this bracket should leave K.C. lugging the title trophy home, if it isn't already exhausted by the time it gets there. A lack of depth and big-game experience will hurt Michigan's chances, and Iowa's downfall will be too great a reliance on the exciting B.J. Armstrong. Nor will UNC end its six-year absence from the Big Dance's guest list. Not unless Jimmy Black, Kenny Smith or somebody else who knows how to handle the basketball mys teriously shows up in baby blue this weekend. That leaves Arizona, a senior-laden team buoyed by the three-point accuracy of Steve Kerr and the all court artistry of Ail-American for ward Sean Elliott. The Wildcats are a superb defensive team, which allows them to dictate pace to quicker opponents. Midwest Yawn. Do we have to talk about these guys? Purdue, Kansas State, Kansas and Vanderbilt are the four teams who will battle in the Pontiac Silverdome. The top-seeded Boilermakers, led by three seniors and coached by the Mike Berardino Sports Editor ugliest man in basketball, Gene Keady, figure to emerge, but won't. 1 K-State slipped by security some how, as did Danny Manning's Jay hawks, whose postseason success will only help give Larry Brown's agent a better bargaining position with the Charlotte Hornets. Ill take Vanderbilt. Three-point shooter Barry Goheen is going bald and he knocked Pitt out. You have to love him. Will Perdue is a 7-foot-3 space-eater who will enable the Commodores to give overlooked coach CM. Newton the national recognition he deserves. : Southeast Down in Birmingham, Billy Tubb$' Oklahoma crew will keep on running. Don't expect Louisville to slow the high-scoring Sooners down, but if Kentucky coach Eddie Sutton can lure Tubbs into a chalkboard battle on Sunday, look for the Wildcats to pull the mini-upset. East This is where the Atlantic 10 gets off, so to speak. No. 1 -ranked Tem ple, the A-10 champion, should have no trouble with Richmond in one semifinal. Then look for Rhode Island to knock off Duke in the other, before the Cinderella Rams pull off their fourth shocker in a row and run the Owls batty. Carlton Owens and Tom Garrick are an awesome senior backcourt, and young Kenny Green is a monster inside. It won't be long before URI coach Tom Penders and his savage tan adorn the covers of national magazines everywhere. Wcs latlg (far CBaolfie(dl Adveirtisiinig 1 .
