Heels take secood place in ACC The Tar" HeelTHufcday, May 19,'198815 ' From stiff reports The UNC baseball team finished second in the 15th annual ACC Baseball Tournament held last week in Greenville, S.C. The fifth-seeded Tar Heels lost Sunday to favored Georgia Tech 6 2, leaving the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning. Tech pitcher Scott Erwin recorded his 13th victory of the season against no losses, and Jim Poole recorded his third save of the tournament and eighth of the season. The leading hitter for UNC in the title game was Jesse Levis, who went three-for-three with a double and two RBl's. Leading hitters for Tech were Ty Griffin (3-t, HR and 2 RBI's), Billy Parham (1-3, HR and 1 RBI) and Pat McGuire (35 and 1 RBI). Poole struck out UNC's Chris De Franco with the bases loaded on three straight sliders after falling behind in the count 2-0 to end the game. UNC reached the finals by splitting a double-header with top-seeded Clemson on Saturday. The Tigers won the opening game 5-4, but the Tar Heels rallied later to take the nightcap 7-6, powered by the three hit, 3 RBI performance of DeFranco.
