John Nicholls, professor of educa tional psychology at Purdue Univer sity, will discuss "Achievement Mot ivation and Democratic Education" in a free public lecture June 1. The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. at the Omni Europa Hotel in Chapel Hill. Jean-Marie Simon, Time magazine photographer and author of "Gua temala: Eternal Spring, Eternal Tyranny," will speak and present a slide show June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of the Reconciliation, 110 Elliott Road. Latin American music, a book signing and reception will follow the free public talk. Simon, daughter of Violet Simon of Chapel Hill, is a consultant to Americas Watch and Amnesty Inter national.
