American Music Award nominees
comprised of dubious musicians
The 1 6th Annual American Music
Awards will be broadcast Monday
night from 8 to 11 pm After
looking through the list of cate
gories and nominees, one cant
help but wonder why. I'd rather
let the choices speak for them
selves but I think youll agree that
the committee who came up with
these nominations has invented a
new meaning for the word favor
ite. Here, for your entertainment
pleasure only is the complete list
(slightly editorialized, of course).

Can l quote you? That's a
common refrain among us jour

to us because they add rele

we write. To you, the average

Before Jeff Hiday took over

a best costume contest for the
most authentic 60s persona
Charles Guidry is the reigning
male champion of the costume
contest, Parker says. "He has a long
beard and he wears sandals and
those clothes every day anyway."
Gayle Murreiie, who has won the
women's contest for the past two
years, did so by dressing up as one
of the Supremes.
"If s gotten bigger every year as
more people hear about it," Parker
Sept. 5, 1985, the DTH ran
Nietzsche's famous (or infamous,
depending on how you look at
it) maxim, "God is Dead." This one
line generated more letters than
anything printed in the paper
and the outcry made news
across the state.
By the way, there is a reason
why I've been babbling on about
quotes. Its because I recently
heard a quote that I'd like to put
on the front page, it's from "Bull
Durham" and it sums up a situa
tion and a truth about society
in a neat and clever manner.
"The world was made for those
not cursed with self-awareness."

The disc jockeys are also planning
to show a few classic cult films,
which they hope will include "Easy

If nothing else, it's got to be worth
a good laugh.

This era may have been beaten
to death, but its music (including
the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Moody
Blues, etc) still has an undeniable
place in the "80s.
So, don some tie-dyes, leather
moccassins, or a miniskirt and love
beads and go back in time.
Remember, it's for a good cause:
the continuation of rock n' roll on
our college airwaves.
