In September 1987, Bill McMi
chael and Richard Carroll opened
Helium Highs while still students' at
UNC. Now the business is under new
management and is gearing up for a
grand opening in its new location.
Helium Highs will have its grand
opening Friday in its new office above
Salon 135 on Franklin Street.
John Haydock, the new president
of Helium Highs, said, "This week
we will hang fliers on campus, put
balloons on campus on Friday, give
discounts for Valentine orders made
on that day and also give out free
balloons."
Since its opening, Helium Highs
has outgrown two locations.
Chris Crute, Helium Highs' new chad's death in January. McMichael.'
vice president, said, "Bill started the was shot and killed Jan. 10 by Lee

apartment. However, he soon out-, southeast Chapel Hill.
grew this location and moved into a
small office above Sadlack's.
"The office we're in now could hold
three of the offices we just moved out
of."
Haydock came to Helium Highs
six months ago when McMichael
asked him to help with sales.
Crute began working with McMi
chael about two months after the
business opened. "Bill needed some
fliers done up, and I was the only
person he knew with a computer, so
he asked me to help," he said.
Crute and Haydock stepped in to
keep the business open after McMi-
