"The Hy ir (a sequel to a remake,
for heaven's sake) is buzzing
around our local cinemas, but the
only thing important to say this
week is go see "Dangerous Liai
sons," if you haven't already. So
here are a few words about
upcoming sequels not surpris
ingly, this summer will be smo
thered with them. What is surpris
ing is that all of the following,
movies' previous episodes made
over $100 million at the box office
and they feature original cast and
director: "Chostbusters H" starring
Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and
directed by Ivan Reitman; "Star
Trek V: The Final Frontier this time
directed by Captain Kirk himself,
William Shatner; "Indiana Jones and
the Last Crusade" starring Harrison
Ford and directed by Steven
Spielberg; and "Back to the Future
ll" starring Michael J. Fox and
Christopher Uoyd, and directed by
Robert Zemekis. It doesnt whet
your appetite so much as drown
it.
Notice we have nothing to say
about the Oscar nominations. We
believe in mature consideration. A
full guide to where you can see
the would-be winners will appear
in next week's Omnibus.
As always, asterisks denote
especially wonderful films.

The ubiquitous Michelle Pfeiffer
("Tequila Sunrise," "Dangerous Liai
sons") plays the widow of a small
time Mafia man who made the
mistake of sleeping with the Boss's
mistress. This Jonathan Demme
comedy bears great resemblance
to his previous and better work,
"Something Wild," in that it is
hilarious for some of the time, and
a little strained and confused for
the rest.
The first of the Remake week
ends at the Union offers a new
and an old version of "Mutiny on
the Bounty."
The Bounty. Saturday, Feb. 18
- 7 and 9.30
Though not quite up to the
great original, this enjoyable and
lush adaptation is based on a
Richard Hough's novel "Captain
Bligh." The superb Anthony Hop
kins puts in a terrific performance
as the gruesome Bligh and Mei
Gibson does a respectable job as
Retcher Christian.
Mutiny on the Bounty. Sun
day, Feb. 19 -7 and 9:30.
This Oscar winner stars Charles
Laughton, in one of his most
bombastic roles, as the. hard
hearted Captain Bligh to Clark
Gable's Retcher Christian. Easily
the best of the several adapta
tions of the Nordhoff-Hall novel,
this stirring film is really well-made
considering it came out over 50
years ago, and contains some
great performances.
