The cause of generations of psychological trauma Based on a book by Felix Salten, this cele brated Disney classic tells the story of a young fawn's early years growing up in the terribly danger ous forest. Needless to say, brilliant animation throughout. East of Eden Saturday, March 4 - 7 and 9:30. in this excellent adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel, James Dean, in his first starring role, plays the darker of two brothers who are caught in a fight for their father's affection. Exquisitely -directed by the great Elia Kazan, who had already made "On The Waterfront" and "A Streetcar Named Desire." The Marriage of Maria Braun Sunday, March 5 - 7 and 9:30. This Fassbinder masterpiece tells the tale of the rise to power of a penniless woman in Germany who is waiting for the return of her husband from world war ll. This complex and riveting parable of the decline of postwar German society is as good as any film from the New German cinema move ment, thanks to an astonishing performance in the lead by Hanna Schygulla, and, of course, to the sheer brilliance of Fassbinder's vision and filmmaking mastery.
