The Daily Tar HeelMonday, April 3, 19897 s ports vans from page 12 "It wasn't too bad in Seoul because " everyone was concentrating on other Sports," Evans said. "But when I got " home, that's when 1 realized how big rt was. ' With a block party, school assem blies and the media barrage, Evans found things a bit tougher to handle. : ' "Everything got kind of hectic because everyone wanted an inter view," Evans said. "I didn't like it because I was doing so much, I didn't have time to do anything with my friends." An interesting item she and her swimming friends use to get psyched up are bright red and white turtle necks, which her Fullerton buddies wore during Evans' record-breaking 1,000 swim. "I asked them to wear the shirts," Evans said. "I mean, how can you . miss those things?" Evans added that, besides their easy visibility, she and ' her fellow swimmers get "a team feeling" from the shirts. t Can you believe it, a top-flight swimmer who's fashion-conscious? Let's remember that, besides a college career and most likely the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Evans still has a few months of high school left, a few months to be and act like a high schooler. But here is a superior athlete who turned down endorse ment offers and the money that went with it just so she could swim in college. In a world where many sports stars are greedy and arrogant, Evans is a fresh change from the athlete's mold, one who will be a role model for years to come. Baseball takes home two wins From staff reports CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -Second baseman Dave Arendas had two doubles, a triple and three RBI to lead North Carolina to a 10-5 victory over host Virginia Sunday in an ACC contest. The win, which improved the Tar Heels' record to 14-8 and 4-2 in the conference, capped a perfect weekend for UNC. The Tar Heels came from behind on Saturday to deal the Cavaliers (8-14-2, 3-6) a 4-3 loss in 10 innings. Catcher Jesse Levis was an offen sive force in both games. Levis drove in four runs over the weekend and went 3 for 6 with two doubles on Sunday to raise his team-high batting average to .427. In Saturday's game, after the Tar Heels had scored two runs in the ninth to erase a 3-1 deficit, first baseman Steve Estroff brought home the winning run in the 10th when a suicide squeeze bunt by Arendas was booted by the pitcher and then thrown into right field.
