As I think we've been forced to
say several times over the past
few weeks, its such a dull time at
the movies at the moment But
never fear, summer's here! And
with it comes a whole bunch of
stuff to ensure the silver screen
sizzles as hot as the summer sun.
The first big news for Chapel Hill
is the long-awaited arrival at the
Varsity of Telle the Conqueror,"
the Danish film starring Max von
Sydow that won Best Foreign Rim
at last month's Oscars. "PeUe" is
due to arrive next week, along
with "High Hopes," a social satire
directed by British screenwriter
MSke Leigh ("Abigail's Party).
Other than that, Memorial Day
will kick off what most likely
promises to be the movies' biggest
summer ever. Sequels, most of
them made by and starring their
original crew, will undoubtedly be
the most successful: "Indiana Jones
and the Last Crusade" (Harrison
Ford plus Sean Connery and River
Phoenix); "Star Trek v.- The Final
Frontier;" "Chostbusters ll" "Lethal
weapon li" and the umpteenth
James Bond adventure, "License to
WIL"
Other than that, the films you
wont be able to miss include an
undersea shocker called "The
Abyss," the latest thriller from
James Cameron, director of "The
Terminator and "Aliens." Tim
