The Greeks and Romans go head-to-head

If Chef Boyardee is the closest you
get to Italian dining or your taste
buds are calling for some tasty
Greek souvlaki, then you've come to
the right place. Chapel Hill, being
the melting pot it is, possesses a mi
crocosm of Greek and Italian dining
pleasures. :

Leo's Restaurant offers a variety
of Greek and Italian entrees in a cozy,
authentic atmosphere. As one of the
oldest restaurants in Chapel Hill and
boasting "the best pizza in North
Carolina," Leo's is an excellent choice
for an evening of family enjoyment.
The restaurant is located next to
Yates Motor Company on West Fran
klin Street and is open daily from 5
p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Mondays through
Thursdays, and until 10:30 p.m. Fri
day and Saturday.
Marathon Restaurant is among
Chapel Hill's best-known Greek res
taurants because of its deliveries to
residence halls. Marathon has a very
casual atmosphere and modest prices.
Their menu features submarine sand
wiches, including the very popular
steak and cheese sub, which sells for

other Greek specialties, a variety of
salads and (for your sweet tooth) the
famous baklava pastry made with
phyllo dough and nuts and covered
with sweet syrup.
Marathon is located at 708 Rose
mary St. and is open from 1 1 a.m. to
11p.m. daily.
Mariakakis Restaurant offers a
delectable Greek, menu as well as
several Italian dishes. Among their
Greek treasures are the tantalizing
moska (consisting of eggplant, ground
beef and cheese), shishkabobs and
dolmos. Italian offerings include pizza
and pasta, but the most popular is
Mariakakis' mouth-watering spa
ghetti. Mariakakis also carries a vari
ety of olive oils, pasteries and wines

Mario's Italian Restaurant offers
a variety of traditional cuisine, in
cluding its popular chicken and
shrimp dishes and homemade bread.
Mario's, has been family owned and
operated for 25 years. The restaurant
is casual, with a modest price range
Mario's is open from 11:30 a.m.
till 10 p.m. Monday through Thurs
day, and from 11:30 a.m. till 10:30
p.m. Friday and Saturday. They're
open from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Mario's is located at the Kroger Plaza
next to Chapel Hill Opticians.
Martini's Restaurant serves in a
casual Italian atmosphere. They of
fer five different sauces and five dif
ferent pastas that may be mixed to
please the customer, as well as scal
loped dishes and two lasagnas.
The bar opens daily at 4 p.m. with
dinner served from 5 till 10 p.m.
Tuesday through Thursday, and un
til 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Breakfast is served Sunday from 9:30
a.m. till 2 p.m. They're closed all day
Monday. Martini's has been serving
the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area for
12 years and is located at 206 W.
Main St. in Carrboro.
