To appear in Campus Calendar, announcements must be submitted on the Campus Calendar form by NOON one business day before the announcement is to run. Saturday and Sunday events are printed in Friday's calendar and must be sub mitted on the Wednesday before the announcement is to run. Forms and a drop box are located outside the DTH office, 104 Union. Items of Interest lists ongoing events from the same campus organizations and follows the same deadline schedule as Campus Calendar. Please use the same form. TUESDAY Noon: The Institute for Research in Social Science announces "Devel oping Interventions to Address Barri ers to Screening for Breast Cancer and Dry Rush two-man teams who visit approximately four to five houses each night. They go in, introduce themselves to the rush chairman or fraternity president and ask to be shown around. If they encoun ter alcohol, they notify the chairman or president that there is a violation." The IFC enforcement team and the Greek life office make sure dry rush is enforced at the University of Georgia, said Ron Binder, adviser to fraternities at Georgia. "We had two violations this year." The punishments for fraternities who violate the policy are fines, having their social privileges removed andor hav ing their intramural privileges revoked, Binder said. Neither the University of Michigan nor the University of Virginia have a dry rush policy, although officials at Michigan are working on implement ing such a policy. 'There haven't been any singular incidents as results of having wet rush," said Grant Davidson, fraternity coordi Calvin and Hobbes Doonesbury gosh, miss nick 5 1 not at all. you're really off i'm sure to see bill ben- hevlovb V hpttz mim rn c&c- vni HEUO?Y Ul.DA. "We are trying to implement a dry rush policy because of the liability issues, the fact that under age people are frequently at the parties and the negative image aspect." Brian Owens, president of the IFC at the University of Virginia, said there were a few nights of expressively dry rush, but otherwise the decision was left up to the fraternity. Georgia's Binder said that there were some students who wanted to go back to wet rush, but that neither fraternities nor rushees could make a quality deci sion when alcohol is involved. "They don't have to spend as much money or deal with a bunch of drunks while giving bids. They know that most people who come are coming for rush." Robertson said there had been no complaints about dry rush at Clemson. "It's been dry for so long, people expect it." pencil saga slated for release in January.
