The show opened with a spooky haunted house scene, with Jay Rey nolds as the "Psycho Lord," looking like Count Dracula, and Rodney Leigh as "Shelby the Maid," complete with wig and hairy legs. After all the singers had gathered on stage in various crazy attires, the Psy cho Lord re-entered the scene with his dead girlfriend's hand and the entire cast sang "I Hold Your Hand in Mine," giving a comical twist to the traditional barbershop song. The opening of the second act was equally twisted. After appearing in a graveyard scene complete with person alized gravestones, the singers broke into "Ain't Got Time to Die." Also belonging in the wacky cate gory was a skit featuring a heated battle between a Tar Heel and Soviet Union basketball player. The score was close until the Soviet player lost concentra tion and exclaimed "Fly in Me Face!" the name of the next number. D'Ann Pletcher Concert Not even above a parody of them selves, Jon Owen introduced his ar rangement of "The Lion Sleeps To night," which came off comically in a minor instead of the appropriately major key. While there were plenty of occa sions for laughter, the group did not neglect its members gift for singing straight-from-the-heart melodies. Tris tan Bishop's performance of "Stormy Weather" and Owen's "Only You" were enough to bring sobs and sighs from any woman in the audience. But laughter and sentimental sighs weren't the only sounds working their way through to the hearts and ears of the audience. A few beat-grabbers showed off the arranging and perform ing ability of the group. The rock beat ZENITH DATA SYSTEMS WELCOMES THE t 1 t t 0 I t i t r r f v 9 r t t r t i . Perhaps even more impressive than their ability to sing finger-snapping rock was the group's power to create the mood of a fireside gathering in an auditorium filled with 1,600 people. This relaxed feeling radiated from each member as he casually told the audience something about himself and artfully worked his personal introduc tion into the introduction of a song. The personality of each singer tended to match the song he introduced and sang. Ham-of-hams Kilty Reidy intro duced the musical-comedy piece "Leaning On a Lamp Post" as though he were actually singing in a musical comedy, while the playful, almost flir tatious Eric Geil will probably receive many valentines for "When I'm 64." It goes without saying that, aside from their theatrical embellishments, the pure musical talent of the group is superb. Their performance of the Eagles' song "Seven Bridges Road," arranged by Brad Davidson, produced a response from the audience that neared complete rapture. j The group ended the night with its traditional invitation for old Clef members in the audience to join them onstage for "Aye Zigga Zumba," show ing that their loyalty to their school is still as strong as their loyalty to music. Morris said the computerized schol arship search had been a goal of her office for years. While national schol arship data bases are available, she said she would prefer a system adapted to scholarships in North Carolina, many of which have special requirements based on major and county of origin..
