Batmobile on selling block
RICHMOND, Va. Patrick
McLynn has the perfect Christmas gift
suggestion for the person who has
everything, including a car that works:
a Batmobile that doesn't.
It won't be cheap. The college stu
dent, who won the "Batman" movie car
and $25,000 in an MTV contest, is
hoping to get $ 1 25,000 to $330,000 for
the sleek, black car and is seeking sealed
bids from around the world. The dead
line: Dec. 20.
"My accountant thinks it's going to
be more lucrative if we try for some
body in California," he said. "Some
body who's going to want to sit on this
thing for an investment or just for laughs
and has that kind of money ..."
The B atmobile, a prototype that was
one of three cars built for "Batman,"
has another drawback. It doesn't have a
working engine.
McLynn already has received two
bids from Hollywood Productions Inc.,
which built the Batmobiles.
The company initially offered
$4,000, then upped that to $25,000 or a
brand-new Corvette with an engine.
McLynn's main form of transportation
is a motorcycle.
Estimates of what it cost Hollywood
, Productions to build the vehicle range
from $16,000 to $60,000.
McLynn's uncle, Andy Grimes, has
been handling most of the inquiries
about the Batmobile.

Father and son revive old vehicles
McKEES ROCKS, Pa. One-horse
open sleighs are rarely seen dashing
through the snow these days, but they're
being preserved in the workshops and
storage sheds of a suburban father and
son.
Anthony Police, 47, of Stowe Town
ship and his son, Mark, 22, also are
restoring 19th-century buggies, hearses,
wagons und a Civil War cannon.
The oldest is a surrey sleigh once
owned by President Rutherford B.
Hayes that dates to the early 1 800s. The
most modern is a 1905 glass enclosed
Riddle hearse.
The Polices have restored more than
50 vehicles during the past six years,
including a Canadian carry-all sleigh
built in the late 1890s.
Anthony Police bought it from a
junk dealer for $20. After restoration,
its worth was estimated at $3,200 to
