OAKLAND, Calif. Jose Canseco
is close to being the major league's
highest paid ballplayer. But he's not yet
telling by how much.
The 25-year-old outfielder reached a
verbal agreement with the Oakland
Athletics on a contract, one that the
player's agent on Tuesday said will be
the richest in the game.
"You already know the number of
years," Canseco said before Oakland 3
2 victory over Detroit Tuesday night.
"You'll know the amount tommorow. I
can't say any more. You don't want me
to get into trouble, do you?"
The team called a news conference

agreement, but did not specify the
contract's length or dollar amount.
