Added the 10th Grade. At a recent, meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Scotland Neck Graded School a motion was carried to authorize the superintendent to raise the standard of the school to do tenth grade work. This will give us a four year preparatory course and we propose to prepare thoroughly for college. We offer the advantages of the 10th grade to all who were graduated from the 9th grade last year and to all who are prepared to do 10th grade work. A little folder showing the course of study that will be used in all the grades will be gotten out soon and will be mailed to any one requesting it. For any further information see or write to J. B. Aiken, Supt His Bond Reduced. In a habeas corpus hearing before Judge C. M. Cook, at Louisburg, on Wednesday, of last week the bond of Mr. E. E, Powell, Jr., was reduc ed from $3500.00 to $1500.00. Pow ell was tried before Mayor A. C. Livermon some weeks ago under several different warrents charging him with selling liquor. He was bound over to court in each case and the mayor made the bond $300.00 in each indictment. Judge Cook looked at the matter differently from the way Mayor Livermon did and reduced it as above stated saying that he thought $1500. 00 was sufficient. The friends of Powell readily gave the reduced bond and he was allow ed to come home, and is now at his store attending to business. It is being talked on the streets that when the trial comes off at the August term of court Powell is going to make statements that will be damaging to others besides himself. For the good of the community the whole matter ought to be sifted out. Warrenton District Conference. The thirtieth annual session of the Warrenton District Conference of the M. E. Church, South, was held with the Methodist church at Williamston from Wednesday, June 29th., to Saturday, July 3rd. Rev. J. E. Underwood, Presiding Elder of the District, preached the opening sermon Wednesday night. The conference organized the next morning by electing Rev. C. L. Read sacretary, and the appointment of the working committees. It was a busy session from beginning to end. Mr. Underwood makes an ideal presiding officer. The preach ers made very encouraging reports of their work on the various charges. The preaching and speeches before the conference were of a high order and very interesting. The homes of the people of Williamston were thrown wide open to the visitors and all were given a hospitable and cordial reception. This writer was fortunate in being assigned to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gurganus where we were intertained in the very best style and where every thing was done to make our stay pleasant and of last ing remembra nee. Several preachers remained over and preached in the various churches in Williamston Sunday morning and night. The next session of the conference meets with the Scotland Neck Methodist church. In a game of ball interesting at t;ms here Wednesday, Aulander de feated the strong Scotland Neck ag gregation by the score of 8 to five. This is the only off day that is re corded against the four fingered spitter, his main trouble was wild ness in pinches. In the fifth with the score 0 to 0 the locals came to the bat and off of a pass and six hits scored four runs, this was overcome when the visitors with the big end up in the sixth slambashed Darden for seven saf ties which netted them five tallies. The score board was tickled no more until the eighth when Darden allowed two passes and one safety and these coupled with three errors gave the boys from across the river three runs. In Scot land Neck's half of the eighth one mora run was added to her list. The features of the game was the classy work of the whole Aulander team, and the bone headed work of the lo cals.
