Mrs. Kitcbin Continues III. As we go to press to-day (Wednes day) the condition of Mrs. Maria Kitchin is reported very serious. She has been sick for two weeks and there has been very little change for the better. Governor and Mrs. Kitchin and Dr. Thurman D. Kitchin, of Raleigh, with her other sons and daughters, of this town, are constantly at her bedside, It is earnestly hoped that Mrs. Kitchin may be spared to them many more years. The prayers of our people go out for her and her fami ly during these trying hour of suf fering and watching by the bedside of a sick mother. James M. Herring. Written for The Commonwealth. We are again called on to chroni cal the death of one of our citizens. This time it was one of our choice young men that death has claimed. Truly in the midst.of life are we in the midst of death. On last Satur day evening, July 23rd., James Her ring died in a hospital in Washing ton, N. C, whither he had been taken for treatment. His last sick ness was of about two weeks dura tion and his death brings a shpek to the community. He was 26 years, 2 months and 6 days old at the time of his death. Ten year.s ago he united with the Baptist church 'and was ever afterward faithful to his church and Sunday school. Three months ago he was united in marriage ,to Miss Sadie Baggett and his unexpected death brings to her the unbounded sympathy of her many friends. Mr. Herring leaves his wife, moth er, two brothers, four sisters, other relatives and many friends to mourn his loss. . James Herring was a model young man. He was gentle, devout, true and loving as a son, husband, broth- . i i , i er, cnrisuan ana cnurcn rnemuer. May his wholesome influence abide behind him to make us better and to draw us heavenward. In his sick- ness he often said he must die and lamented the fact that he must leave his loved ones but. at the same time he cheered us by saying he was go ing to be with Jesus. May we be able thus to testifiy when we come to our end! The funeral took place from his mother's residence in East Scotland Neck at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted at the grave by Rev. R. M. McFarland as sisted by Rev. C. A. Jones and his body was placed in the Baptist ceme tery to await the Ressurrection mom.
