Parker, who made a few introduc tory remurks and introduced the oil-or speakers ss follows: Messrs. C. M. Garren. T. Frank Parker, W. N.Hatt. The improvement. j men spoke on son commercial fertdi- corn growing and pecan grow ing in North Carolina. Ech one handled his subject in a very in structive manner. Mrs. W. M. Hutt was in charge of the women's institute, and the at tendance of ladies was good. Ail were well pleased with the subjects discussed by Mrs. Hutt. Time and space prevents our giv ing a more extended account of the institute. from Halifax county. Prof. Paul Q. Bryan did the draw ing for the prizes given away by the Burroughs-Pittman-Wheeler Co., in stead of Mr. Ashby W. Dunn, as an nounced in these columns last week. We hasten to make the correction. Rev. Jno. T. Pullen. of Raleigh, conducted services at the Baptist church Sbnday morning and night. Mr. Pullen was greeted with large congregations at both services and all were well pleased with the ser mons. We not;c2 from the committee appointments that Senator A. P. Kitchin, of Halifax, is given some good appointments. He was made Chairman on Several committees. Representative W. T. Clements was also well taken care of in committee appointments. Mr. K. L. House has moved to the dwelling occupied by Mr. R. V. Kitchin last year and Mr. Kitchin is living in the dwelling formerly oc cupied by Miss Lizzie Pittman and Miss Pittman moves to her own home, having made some repairs and additions to the house. The remains of Mr. Brinkley Allsbrook were brought here from Parmele Tuesday night. We could not get any particulars more than Mr. Allsbrook was killed by a train at Parmele sometime during the day. The burying took place in the country yesterday - (We dnesday.) Campbell, of Halifax, visited relatives here the past week. Mr. J. A. Perry left for Winston Monday where he will visit h 13 son, Mr. J. DPerry. Miss Bessie Gray, of Fayetteville, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Gray. Mr. G. Loyd Bell, of Suffolk, Va., visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Whit Bell, last week. Miss Marian White, of Hobgood, visited her aunt, Mrs. R. H. Gray, Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. W. R. Bond has returned home after a visit to relatives and and friends in Raleigh. Mr. J. L. Bell, of Norfolk, Va., spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Whit Bell. Prof. L. W. Bagley, of Littleton, was a pleasant visitor nere i nurs- day and Friday of last week. Mr. Herbert Leggett returned to Norfolk Saturday after spending the holidays with Mr. J. G. Moore. Miss Josephine Henley, of Frank- linton, visited Miss Cleve Andrews and Mrs. A. M. It finds all our peo ple up with the season. We had beautiful Christmas holi days and our people enjoyed them and were as merry as we have been in many years. There was very lit tle sign of intoxical ing liquors in thi.-? community. We can all say with one accord. What wonderful things ha3 prohibition wrought ! - Our people are entering into the new year as happily as any one can. While we are thankful to Almighty God for the blessings of the past, we are looking ahead to future days to come. The year 1911 finds but very little of the last year's crop in the field. Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Hale spent Christmas with friends and relatives in Rocky Mount and Wilson. Mr. Charlie West aud sister, Miss Jeanette, of Nashville, spent several days here Christmas with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
