No more delightful social affair was ever attended than the recept ion given by Mr. and Mrs. G. S. White, Friday evening, the occasion being their 15th anniversary of their wedding. It was not a formal affair, but a real "at home" to their many friends. Mr. and Mrs White met their friends at the door giving them a cordial wel come. Mrs. White wore an elegant gown of white marquesette over white messaline. Punch was served in the hall by Miss Louise Josey and Mr. Henry Clark. In the parlor the guest were greet ed by Mrs. Herbert Johnson, a bride of a week, and together with Mr. Johnson they received the con gratulations of their many friends. From the parlor the guest were in vited into the dining room to view the handsome display of presents which Mr. and Mrs. White had re ceived from friends at home and elsewhere as tokens of love and friendship. Presiding in the dining room were Mesdames W. H. Josey, and Chas. Speed and Miss Lizzie Leggett, an elegant salad course was served. Many friends called during the evening and many: were the good wishes the bride and groom of fif teen years received, all wishing for them that they might live to cele brate all of their anniversaries. Dance at Speed. There will be a dance in the Far msrs TTnion Hall at Speed, North Carolina Friday night. October 27th given for the benefit of Mrs. Jim Jenkins dancing class. The public cordially invited. Patrons Are Urged to Send Children Promptly Tbe First Day. As announced in The Common wealth last week, school will begin next Monday, the 30th. Rather than wait for the heating plant to be completed, which would delay us about two weeks longer, we have decided to use oil heaters in the class rooms for a week or two and we have arranged to use these heat ers. It is thought that these heaters will keep the rooms comfortable with the weather no colder than we usually have in November and if any unusually cold spell should come up on us during thp time we will ad journ school until it is over or until the heating plant is completed. The heating plant will be completed about November 15th. We make the announcement about using the oil heaters so that any parents who are not satisfied that the above plan will be safe will know it before send ing their children. Let all patrons and pupils rally to the support of the school and as far as possible let us have regular at tendance and strict attention to school duties. School has been nec essarily delayed longer than any of us expected and we ..will have to make up the lost time as best we can. As was announced some time ago, the hours will be a little longer than here-to-fore and in order to make up some of the additional lost time we have decided to teach un til 12:30 on Saturdayfor a while. We trust that all who are inter ested in these changes or affected by them will recognize the impor tance of making up the time and of making this a successful school year. Failure to make up any of the lost time would make it necessary to lower the standard of the school f or several years. Let us all make the best of the in conveniences that have been occas ioned by the delay in getting into our new building. J. B. Aiken, Supt. WHY HESITATE?
